January 17, 2025 —AI kissing apps exploit deepfakes, enabling non-consensual videos of people kissing. Critics slam their normalization of boundary-crossing tech as dangerous.
A shocking wave of “AI kissing apps” has taken over social media, allowing users to create videos of people kissing without their consent. Promoted heavily on platforms like TikTok and Meta, these apps turn uploaded photos into lifelike videos, crossing ethical boundaries and raising alarms over privacy and consent.
Haley McNamara, an executive at the National Center for Sexual Exploitation warned:
These apps trivialize consent, making violations seem like a joke.
She emphasized how such technology normalizes exploitative deepfakes and poses significant risks to personal autonomy. With over 3,500 ads shown on Meta and TikTok, many depict celebrities like Scarlett Johansson and Emma Watson in fabricated scenarios.
The apps, which also offer features like “hug your crush” and “kiss your ex,” are eerily easy to use and dangerously accessible, boasting millions of downloads on major app stores.
While TikTok has removed some ads citing policy violations, Meta defended the ads as compliant with its guidelines. However, critics argue that these apps serve as a gateway to more harmful deepfake content, including image-based abuse and child exploitation.
Reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reveal over 7,000 cases of AI-related child abuse imagery in the last two years alone. McNamara added:
This is a Pandora’s box. If someone created such a video of you or a loved one, the violation would be undeniable.
