Houston, February 21, 2025 –A 2TB medical database linked to DM Clinical Research was left exposed online, compromising over a million patient records. Dark web fraud fears grow.
A massive healthcare data breach has exposed 2TB of highly sensitive medical records, putting over a million patients at serious risk of identity theft, fraud, and cyberattacks.
The database, linked to DM Clinical Research, was found completely unprotected online, leaving names, medical histories, medications, phone numbers, and email addresses vulnerable to exploitation.
Cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler discovered the breach, warning that this kind of exposure could lead to devastating consequences for patients. With no encryption or password protection, hackers could have easily accessed the records before the issue was resolved.
This is a ticking time bomb for identity theft. Medical data is even more valuable than financial data on the dark web.
Healthcare data breaches aren’t just about privacy violations—they can lead to targeted social engineering attacks, with cybercriminals impersonating doctors, insurance companies, or even government agencies.
A cybersecurity analyst Mike Herrington warned:
Unlike credit cards, medical records can't be replaced. Once stolen, they can be exploited for years.
DM Clinical Research has acknowledged the breach but hasn’t confirmed if cybercriminals accessed the data. The true impact may only come to light after forensic audits.
