Portland, Maine – February 26, 2025 –15K Mainers hacked—but weren’t told for 10 months! A national firm exposed personal data, and victims are only now being warned.
In a shocking cybersecurity failure, more than 15,000 Mainers have had their personal data exposed—but they are only learning about it now, 10 months after the breach was discovered.
DISA Global Solutions, a national background check firm, was hacked nearly a year ago, yet affected individuals are just now receiving notifications. The breach compromised names, addresses, and potentially more sensitive personal details, leaving thousands at high risk of identity theft.
Lisa Carter, a Portland resident said:
Why did it take nearly a year to tell us? Hackers have had a head start with my personal information, and I’m only now being warned?
According to reports filed with the Maine Attorney General, DISA has no evidence that stolen data has been misused—but can they be trusted after such a long delay?
Cybersecurity experts are alarmed. James Lee of the ID Theft Resource Center said:
This delay is inexcusable. The longer people go unaware, the more time criminals have to exploit their information.
Maine has some of the strictest data breach notification laws in the U.S., yet residents are still facing delayed disclosures. With more than a million Mainers affected by breaches in 2024 alone, cybersecurity failures are becoming a terrifying trend.
