Washington, February 21, 2025 –14 million shipping records leaked, exposing personal details of Amazon, eBay, and Shopify customers. Experts warn of an incoming wave of phishing scams.
A massive data leak has exposed over 14 million shipping records, putting millions of Amazon, eBay, and Shopify customers at risk of phishing scams, identity theft, and fraud. The breach, traced back to Hipshipper, a global shipping platform, was caused by an unprotected AWS bucket that left sensitive customer data wide open to cybercriminals.
The exposed records included names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, and shipping details, allowing hackers to craft highly convincing phishing attacks. Cybersecurity experts warn that scammers may now impersonate trusted e-commerce platforms, sending fraudulent order confirmations or refund requests to steal financial details.
A cybersecurity analyst Thomas Holt said:
This is a goldmine for cybercriminals. With this level of detail, scammers can create hyper-targeted phishing emails that look 100% legitimate.
Shockingly, the data leak remained unpatched from December 2024 until January 2025, meaning millions of records could have already been copied or sold on the dark web. Customers who made purchases through Amazon, eBay, or Shopify during this period should be on high alert for suspicious emails or texts.
A cybersecurity expert Joshua Copeland warned:
Check your inbox carefully. If you receive an unexpected shipping notification or refund request, verify it directly with the retailer before clicking any links.
