Indianapolis, March 7, 2025Apria Healthcare hit with a $6.4M settlement after exposing 1.8M patients’ sensitive data in a years-long breach.

A shocking data breach has exposed the personal and financial information of 1.8 million patients, forcing Apria Healthcare to settle for a staggering $6.4 million.

The breach, which compromised sensitive details including Social Security numbers, medical records, and banking information, occurred through two massive cyberattacks that went undetected for years. Attorney General Todd Rokita, who led the legal action against Apria said:

The breaches, which took place between 2019 and 2021, remained undisclosed until April 2023, leaving millions at risk of identity theft, financial fraud, and medical scams. The victims span across Indiana, California, Texas, and Florida, where Apria operates extensively.

The lawsuit alleged that Apria failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures, allowing hackers to infiltrate their systems twice. The company agreed to the $6.4M class-action settlement to compensate victims and strengthen security.

Cybersecurity experts warn that even after such settlements, leaked data remains in circulation on the dark web, putting millions at ongoing risk. A cybersecurity analyst Mark Edelson said:

Apria’s breach exposed 1.8M patients, don’t risk your privacy! Encrypt your data and stay anonymous online with ExpressVPN before hackers strike again.
