The breach, which occurred between September 17 and 29, 2024, has sent shockwaves across the healthcare sector, with the Interlock ransomware group claiming responsibility.
Attackers reportedly exfiltrated 2.6 terabytes of data, including Social Security numbers, medical records, billing information, and government-issued IDs.
On October 27, Interlock made the stolen files available on their dark web extortion portal. The breach caused significant operational disruptions, forcing TTUHSC to tighten its network security and notify affected individuals.
Healthcare data is highly valuable and highly targeted. Ransomware groups like Interlock continue to exploit vulnerabilities in healthcare systems, putting millions at risk.
