Hyderabad, March 13, 2025 – The power and energy sector has emerged as a significant target for cybercriminals, accounting for 29 percent of all malware detections in 2024, as reported by cybersecurity solutions company Seqrite.

The report, prepared in collaboration with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), revealed that over 15,000 malware detections were recorded across 2,132 endpoints in the sector. This alarming figure translates to an average of seven detections per endpoint, underscoring the persistent and sophisticated nature of these cyber threats.

“This alarming statistic highlights the sector’s vulnerability and its attractiveness to threat actors seeking to compromise critical national infrastructure,” the report stated, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures within the industry.

The findings indicate a growing trend of targeted attacks against the power and energy sector, raising concerns about the potential implications for national security and public safety. As cyber threats continue to evolve, the sector must prioritize robust cybersecurity strategies to safeguard its infrastructure.

The data suggests an increasing necessity for organizations within the energy sector to invest in advanced cybersecurity solutions and awareness programs to mitigate these risks effectively.

The report serves as a crucial reminder of the vulnerabilities present in critical infrastructure and the need for ongoing vigilance against cyber threats.
