Chaos struck Indian travelers as the IRCTC website and mobile app crashed during the critical Tatkal ticket booking window, leaving thousands stranded without tickets. This disruption marks the second major outage in December, prompting frustration and anger across the nation.
The outage occurred just before the high-demand Tatkal booking hours—10:00 AM for AC classes and 11:00 AM for non-AC. According to Downdetector, over 2,500 users reported accessibility issues at 10:25 AM IST.
Frustrated travelers were greeted with messages citing “maintenance activity”, pushing them to try again later. A furious passenger tweeted:

On social media, the incident quickly trended, with users tagging Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Prime Minister’s Office, demanding accountability. Several alleged ticket manipulation, claiming premium-priced tickets were available after the website resumed. One user questioned:

This is not the first time travelers have faced such issues. On December 9, a similar outage left passengers stranded. Despite frequent disruptions, IRCTC has yet to provide a clear explanation or concrete resolution.
Experts are now calling for urgent system upgrades and better management of IRCTC’s online infrastructure to prevent such recurring crises. Until then, passengers continue to battle unreliable services during the busiest booking periods.
