Is it Time to #DeleteFacebook?

Facebook has been swimming in controversies as of late. One after another, the privacy scandals have followed the social media giant.

At first, it was revealed that Facebook shared personal data of millions of users with Cambridge Analytica.

Later, the world learned that the company was using a VPN, Onavo Protect to spy on its users. In fact, the information stolen through this app helped Facebook make their final decision about purchasing WhatsApp.

All this prompted the #DeleteFacebook movement across different forums.

Even Brian Acton, the co-founder of WhatsApp joined in after resigning from Facebook.

Meanwhile, Facebook has undertaken tremendous reforms after gaining all this bad press.

The deletion process has been made simple and the privacy settings have been updated. Still, there’s plenty to be done.

Mark Zuckerberg, in his latest message has highlighted all the ‘progress’ Facebook has made in 2018.

But mere words will not satisfy the privacy conscious users. Facebook needs to bring more transparency. Perhaps a third-party audit is needed.

Till then, the #DeleteFacebook movement will rage on.
