Attention!!
Unfortunately, TuVPN is no longer active. Check out some of the top VPNs that are available:

TuVPN is one of the VPNs that rests in relative obscurity. Based in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), the provider has set out on a goal to increase the privacy, anonymity, and security of users on the web.

In this TuVPN review in Canada, I tested its different aspects like pricing, speed, customer support, logging policy, jurisdiction, compatibility, Netflix, and torrenting support in detail.

Based on the detailed analysis, I don’t recommend the service since its pricing is still on the higher side as compared to other best VPNs like Surfshark or ExpressVPN.

TuVPN Review in Canada: My Rating Criteria

  1. Pricing – What is the cost of TUVPN?
  2. Security – Protocols & Encryption
  3. Jurisdiction – Where is TUVPN located?
  4. Speed – Not on the Higher Side
  5. Streaming – Does it Support Netflix &  Torrenting?
  6. Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests

TuVPN Review in Canada Pricing – What is the cost of TUVPN?

TuVPN is one of the few VPNs that offers two kinds of packages in Canada: one for shared IPs, and the other for dedicated IPs. The packages are divided by the number of months of subscription you want. These are:

Pricing-Shared-IP-TuVPN

On the other hand, it also offers dedicated IP packages that include:

Dedicated-IP-Package-TuVPN

You can choose a dedicated IP from one of the following 8 locations:

  • Amsterdam (Netherlands)
  • Gravelines (France)
  • London (UK)
  • Madrid (Spain)
  • Milan (Italy)
  • Munich (Germany)
  • Stockholm (Sweden)
  • Washington (USA)

On the payment front, it offers various payment methods to users. You can purchase subscriptions via credit/debit cards, Mint, Neosurf, bitcoins, among a couple of other options.

The option to pay for a VPN with bitcoins is a pleasant surprise, as many of the lesser-known VPN providers in Canada don’t accept bitcoin payments.

Security – Protocols & Encryption

The service offers 4 tunneling protocols for users to choose from. These include OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, PPTP, and SSH2 tunnels.

OpenVPN and SSH2 are two of the strongest tunneling protocols for VPNs out there. While many popular VPNs in Canada offer OpenVPN protocol that uses 256-bit encryption by default, SSH2 is not so widespread among providers. SSH2 does not support mobile phones, however.

TuVPN has satisfied its users on the security and encryption front enough to rank it among the leading providers known for their strong security.

Jurisdiction – Where is TUVPN located?

In TuVPN review in Canada, The service sails from a safe jurisdiction. Yes, you read that correctly. The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is one of the most user-centric countries because it safeguards users’ online privacy rights appropriately.

Server Locations

One of the major drawbacks of TuVPN is its small server network. Currently, the service has servers located in 9 countries:

  • USA
  • UK
  • Netherlands
  • France
  • Spain
  • Italy
  • Russia
  • Germany
  • Sweden

The low server size puts TuVPN in a bad light in relation to its major competitors since most popular VPN providers such as ExpressVPN or NordVPN have servers in the 4 figures.

However, TuVPN has servers in most of the leading nations of the world, which is good enough if you are not too location-conscious.

Speed – Not on the higher side

There is no denying TuVPN would have to increase its connection speed to a certain degree. When I connected to its Milan server, During TuVPN review in Canada I received 12.67 Mbps download speed while using 30 Mbps internet connection:

TuVPN Review in Canada Streaming – Does it support Netflix & Torrenting?

TuVPN is one of the fewest VPNs in Canada that allow you in unblocking Netflix. You’ll have no difficulty logging into US Netflix if you are connected to the US server of TuVPN.

Furthermore, it does offer torrenting and that is a big plus. For that reason, you should connect to its Amsterdam or Stockholm servers to achieve your streaming objective securely.

Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests?

As far its leak protection features go, it does not expose your IP or WebRTC data online. However, it may leak your DNS information. Here are the screenshots:

DNS Leak:

WebRTC Test:

Similarly, In this TuVPN review in Canada I tested its Windows setup file on VirusTotal.com to see if it revealed any malware or not. Again, it exposed malware that questions its credibility as an online privacy service a great deal.

Trustworthiness – Logging Policy & Customer Support

The logging policy of TuVPN is a little vague, so it’s hard to evaluate it. Although the provider emphasizes that it does not retain personal user data throughout its websites.

It also mentions that the support logs “occasionally might contain your personal data”.

This does not necessarily imply that the company retains personal data at all times. The information exchanged during a discussion with customer support, however, may contain personal data.

So, even though the company does not specifically hold onto your data, some of it may unintentionally remain in the storage of TuVPN.

All in all, the privacy policy is not perfect, but it is still miles ahead of those VPNs that unashamedly keep user logs.

Also, the British Virgin Islands jurisdiction works in the favor of TuVPN, as it is considered to be one of the most privacy-friendly places in the world. Above all, the service follows the concept of GDPR in the right way.

Customer Support

In terms of support, the VPN does not have a live chat option in its armory. Besides, it has the only following option:

  • Email Ticketing System

Clicking on the support button will lead you to the Support Center page, from where you can generate a new ticket or check the status of a previously generated ticket.

While an email ticketing system is not a bad option to have, considering that TuVPN believes in providing “choices” to people as it claims on almost every page on its website, it should be giving users the option for live chat support as well.

Compatibility – How many platforms & devices does TUVPN Support?

In this TuVPN review in Canada I tested TuVPN supports Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux, and even some routers.

The impressiveness of wide device support is somewhat spoiled by the complex installation process. Nonetheless, device support is still one of the stronger aspects of TuVPN in Canada.

Surprisingly, the process of setting it up on your device varies depending on the protocol you want to use.

All protocols, barring OpenVPN, must be set up manually. For the OpenVPN protocol, there is a client you can download from the official TuVPN website.

Tutorials for setting up the VPN with all types of available protocols are provided on the official site of TuVPN. However, I would say the client is just as ugly as the website.

It seems the providers don’t care at all about dressing their software up in an attractive design.

Considering that the provider is not exactly cheap, they should start investing in the user interface of their VPN client as well as the website.

Comparison between ExpressVPN and TUVPN

Alternatives to TuVPN

If you’re looking for a much better VPN service in Canada than this, I would prefer checking for these alternatives first:

TuVPN Review in Canada: Do I Recommend TUVPN?

No, I don’t recommend TuVPN in Canada.

TuVPN is a mixed bag. It stands strong in some aspects, such as encryption, device support, and its ability to unblock US Netflix in Canada, but lacks in other areas like server size and the slightly complicated setup process.

Therefore, in this TuVPN review in Canada, I consider this VPN a well-balanced service that works great as a security tool, but nonetheless requires some improvements for superior performance and higher customer satisfaction.

Thus, I would give TUVPN a 2.8/5.0 stars rating overall.
