Sydney, Australia | February 12, 2025279K medical files leaked after a ransomware attack on Spectrum Medical Imaging. Patients left in the dark for a month as sensitive health data surfaces online!

A devastating medical data breach has rocked Spectrum Medical Imaging, exposing 279,834 files containing sensitive patient information following a ransomware attack by the INC Ransom gang. Patients are now demanding answers after waiting over a month to be notified of the breach.

The ransomware attack, which Spectrum initially denied knowledge of in January, has now resulted in the complete publication of stolen patient data on the dark web. The compromised dataset, totaling 149.7GB, includes oncology reports, diagnostic scans, personal details, and backup files from Spectrum’s Liverpool practice.

A frustrated patient who received the breach notification asked:

Spectrum operates multiple clinics across Sydney, including in Bankstown, Maroubra, and Bondi Junction, putting thousands at risk of identity theft, fraud, and medical privacy violations.

After finally acknowledging the attack, Spectrum assured patients that hackers have been locked out and that cybersecurity experts are investigating the breach.

Despite these claims, cybersecurity experts urge affected individuals to take immediate precautions, as leaked health data is often sold on dark web marketplaces for fraudulent activities.
