The match between Russia and South Korea is going to take place today at 06:00 PM at the Arena Pantanal in Cuiabá, Brazil. The multi-purpose stadium was completed this year and is expected to be jam packed with over 40,000 screaming Football fans.
The Group H match will take place between two teams far apart in the FIFA Ranking – with Russia holding the 19th position in the official FIFA Rankings while the Korea Republic stands at 57.
While none of the two teams show the potential required to claim the 2014 FIFA World Cup, they both refuse to go down without a fighting.
This is going to be one of the most interesting matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Both teams are aggressive and fast. Russian won by 2-1 the last time the two teams went head on in a FIFA match.
Teams’ Fitness Comparison:
The Russian team lost key midfielder Roman Shirokov to a back injury, and this shortfall might cost Russia the winning goal. Roman Shirokov was the Captain of the Russian team. However, the Russian’s have remained undefeated in the last 10 football matches that they have played and hopes are high.
The South Koreans have been able to qualify for participation in FIFA for the last 8 years in a row and have made it through the second-row qualifying matches 4 times out of 8. At this point, the Korean teams have their hopes hanging on 28 year old Forward player Park Chu-Young.
According to veteran South Korean coach and footballer Hong Myung-bo, Park is one of the best strikers that the team has had in the long time. Hong Myung-bo is the same man who played for South Korea and led them all the way to the semi-finals in 2002. Russia needs to consider that South Korea is going to walk on to the field with extensive FIFA related experience.
At the other end Team Manager Fabio Capello is helming the Russian team and has made it clear that the Russian team cannot be expected to bring home the World Cup this year. He said that the 2014 FIFA World Cup will serve as a rehearsal for the Russian team for the 2018 World Cup.
The Russians don’t have their best player, and the best player that the Koreans have is a gamble at best with a 50/50 success rate. At this point, it is hard to make a sure-fire prediction, but that won’t be so once the match starts. Ten minutes into the match it is going to become clear whose game it is.
However, if I was going to make a bet, I would put my money on Korea!
