December 19, 2024 – A recent study highlights the increasing complexity of the cybersecurity landscape, as security leaders emphasize the importance of researching, piloting, and implementing various technologies to enhance defenses against evolving threats.
According to the latest CSO Security Priorities Study, which surveyed over 870 CISOs and cybersecurity leaders, AI-enabled technologies are the most frequently researched or piloted solutions, with 62% of respondents indicating their organizations are exploring this category. Other notable technologies include zero trust (48%), security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) at 46%, and deception technology at 45%.
In addition to these, areas such as DevSecOps and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) are also gaining traction, each cited by 44% of respondents. The study reveals a diverse range of technologies being considered, reflecting the challenges security leaders face in selecting and integrating solutions into their existing tech stacks.
Experts stress the importance of aligning technology choices with business needs rather than succumbing to market hype. Achyuth Krishna, head of IT and infosec at Whatfix, advises cybersecurity leaders to focus on identifying blind spots in their security landscape and to prioritize technologies that directly address these vulnerabilities. A phased approach to implementing new technologies is also recommended to ensure effective integration and minimize risks.
As organizations navigate this complex landscape, evaluating vendors becomes crucial. IDC’s Sakshi Grover emphasizes the need for thorough vetting of AI-based solutions, particularly regarding data usage and collection practices. Certifications from vendors can provide additional assurance of product efficacy, helping security leaders make informed decisions.
Overall, the study underscores the necessity for cybersecurity leaders to adopt a strategic and purpose-driven approach when piloting new technologies, ensuring that they effectively protect critical assets and align with organizational goals.
