Columbus, November 6, 2024 – Ohio’s Nationwide Arena, home to the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL, has initiated a significant upgrade to its security system, transitioning from an outdated and unsustainable setup to a modernized, unified platform.
The previous security system was composed of multiple disparate components, leading to challenges in maintenance and support. The Security Director at the Arena sought to enhance situational awareness and streamline management across the venue’s 350 cameras.
Hive Logic has been selected to implement a camera-agnostic solution, retrofitting the existing camera deployment with an advanced video management system. This new system utilizes a 3-cluster enterprise server to manage video streams and access control systems, enhanced by Hailo’s AI accelerators, which are designed for high-computing workloads.
The Hive software offers a range of functionalities, including people counting to monitor venue traffic, zone management for high-traffic areas, security forensics to identify violations, and efficient storage and search capabilities for video evidence. The system employs Iron Link servers from Velasea, which work in a cluster to share data and ensure uptime, each equipped with Hailo Century 0804 PCIe acceleration cards.
Hailo was chosen for its cost-effectiveness and scalability, allowing the arena to expand its camera network without overloading the processing infrastructure. The technology facilitates real-time analytics on camera streams, improving bandwidth efficiency and reducing power consumption. “Now we have a very robust AI/ML pipeline to rapidly deploy new AI models onto our edge devices,” stated Nate Green, CEO of Hive Logic.
