Australia, November 14, 2024 – The Commonwealth Bank has unveiled three innovative security features aimed at combating scams and enhancing customer safety. These new tools include a first-of-its-kind Review digital wallet” feature designed to help users manage their linked digital wallets through the CommBank app.
Digital wallets are applications that store payment details on devices such as phones, tablets, or smartwatches, allowing users to make purchases without physical cards. James Roberts, CommBank’s head of group fraud, emphasized the importance of safeguarding personal information against phishing attacks, which often involve fraudulent links leading to malicious websites.
The newly introduced Review digital wallet” feature enables customers to easily review and remove any unrecognized digital wallets linked to their accounts. This proactive measure aims to reduce the risk of scammers gaining access to personal banking information and adding card details to their own digital wallets.
In addition, the bank has implemented interactive and intelligent warnings” for first-time payments, providing tailored messages and questions to help customers assess the legitimacy of transactions. According to Roberts, these prompts have proven effective in encouraging customers to reconsider their payments, potentially preventing them from falling victim to scams.
The third feature, QR Cardless, replaces existing Cardless Cash and Deposit Codes, offering a new method for verifying customers during withdrawals or deposits. This change reflects the bank’s commitment to balancing security measures with a seamless digital payment experience, ensuring customers remain protected against scams while enjoying convenient access to their funds.
The introduction of these security features underscores Commonwealth Bank’s dedication to enhancing customer safety in an increasingly digital landscape, aiming to empower users to take control of their financial security.
